Really excited that trends and builders are moving toward something different on the architectural front, and my current fixation is on this “mainhouse” trend. You know, the idea of having an open and sprawling (in feel if not necessarily in scale) primary home with at least one or even two secondary detached dwellings or buildings.
It seems to be very much in line with and in anticipation of a growing need and desire for families to live together. Bucking the tradition of kids going to college, moving out and getting their own place, we’ve already heard many parents say it just doesn’t seem to be going that way. First of all, millennials truly do seem to have a different mindset — and, indeed, a different economic and employment reality — than we did back in the ’80s. We could go out and get a job with insurance and some benefits and actually support ourselves, all without necessarily having tons of or any student debt, with an eye toward buying our own place. Millennials, maybe not so much.
That, coupled with the fact that we’re all living loooooonger, including our parents, means we’re all going to be around together for a lot more time. It just makes sense that multiple generations might be looking to shack up at some point.
And now builders are actually starting to address the trend, and you know they study this stuff to within an inch of it’s life. And so now we’re seeing communities like the one in Encinitas that are really, really interesting.
“Mainhouse” by Insignia is geared toward this confluence of demographic, economic and geographic trends….and, meanwhile, is also tapping into this wonderful sense of a simpler, sturdier agrarian “life on the farm” sensibility. (If you’re a farmer with a degree from Parsons School of Design.) It’s brilliant! And, by the way, really beautiful: The design work, architecture, spatial awareness and rustic touches are totally enthralling. Take a look at a couple of these pictures:
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, THERE ARE ONLY TWO HOMESITES LEFT. LET US TAKE YOU THERE AND REPRESENT YOU….BELIEVE US, FROM EXPERIENCE, IT’S ALWAYS GOOD TO HAVE SOMEONE ELSE ON YOUR SIDE. IF FOR NO OTHER REASON THAN TO SAVE YOU FROM YOURSELF IN GETTING CAUGHT UP IN SELECTING ALL OF THEIR DELICIOUS UPGRADES, MUCH OF WHICH CAN BE DONE “AFTER MARKET” AND FOR A LOT LESS.
